GetNorthPath Passport Photo is made by GetNorthPath, a Canadian immigration platform. We built it because we kept watching applications get delayed over a photo.
The problem we kept seeing
A Canadian immigration application is a long document assembly exercise. Forms, certificates, translations, proof of funds, police checks. Somewhere in that pile is a photo, and the photo is the item people treat as trivial.
It is not trivial. It carries a millimetre-precision measurement of your head that you cannot verify by eye, a background shade that differs by country, and for digital submissions a file size ceiling that most phone photos exceed several times over. When it fails, you often do not find out for weeks, and the delay is entirely avoidable.
What made it worse was the state of the tools available. Search for a passport photo maker and you find sites that ask you to upload your face to a server, do the work, then stamp a watermark across the result and ask for money to remove it. Many do not measure head height at all; they simply crop to the right aspect ratio and hope.
What we built instead
A tool that measures. It uses on-device face landmark detection to locate your chin and estimate your crown including hair, then computes the crop that puts your head inside the published range for the specific document you are applying for. It reports the result in millimetres so you can check it yourself.
It also fixes the boring technical failure that breaks home-printed photos. Browsers export canvas images with no physical size declared, so printers apply their own scaling and a correct crop prints at the wrong size. We write a real DPI into the JPEG header on every export, which is why a print from here measures correctly against a ruler.
And it runs entirely on your device. Not as a privacy gesture, but because it is the right architecture: nobody should need to send a photograph of their face to a stranger to have it cropped.
Why it is free
Because the photo is not our product. GetNorthPath charges $299 CAD flat to prepare a complete Canadian immigration application, which is work where our expertise genuinely matters. Cropping a JPEG is not that work.
If you are moving to Canada, we would like to help with the rest of your application. If you are here for a US, Indian or Schengen photo and have no interest in Canada, use the tool anyway. It behaves identically either way, and there is no upsell hidden in the download button.

Four rules that settle most arguments about what to build and what to say.
Measure, do not guess
Head height is the rule that fails most applications and the one you cannot see. Every export here reports the measurement in millimetres against the published range, so you are checking a number rather than trusting an impression.
Your photo stays yours
Nothing is uploaded. Face detection, background replacement, cropping and encoding all run in your browser on your hardware. This is not a retention policy we ask you to trust, it is an architecture with no server to retain anything.
Free without a catch
No watermark, no account, no download limit. The tool costs us little to run precisely because it has no server component, and it is funded by our immigration service rather than by charging you for a JPEG.
Say what the rule actually is
Where an authority publishes a figure we cite it. Where a requirement is ambiguous or varies by office, we say so rather than inventing a precise-sounding number. Confident wrong answers are worse than honest uncertainty.
What we are not
We are not a government body and we are not affiliated with IRCC, the US Department of State, USCIS or any other authority. The specifications on this site are our reading of published requirements, kept current as best we can, and they can change without notice. Always confirm against the official source before you submit.
We also do not guarantee acceptance. No tool can, because acceptance involves a human reviewer and factors outside the photo file, such as whether your appearance has changed since your last document. What we can do is make sure the measurable requirements are met and reported to you honestly.
