Read the full requirement checklistWe have not found a published chin-to-crown figure for this format, so the head height shown follows ICAO general guidance of 70-80% of the frame height. The photo dimensions themselves are the documented ones. Confirm with the issuing authority before submitting.
A Belgian passport photo is 35 × 45 mm (1.38 × 1.77 in, 413 × 531 px at 300 dpi) with the face 32–36 mm high (71–80% of the frame) on a plain light grey background. The head range is computed from ICAO’s 70–80% guidance because this authority does not publish a millimetre figure.
Lighting, distance from the camera, and what a reviewer checks are the same for every country. Those steps are written once on photo requirements. This page keeps the numbers that change for Belgium.
Accepted vs refused
One compliant photo, five of the faults that cause most rejections.
Read the requirements guideCommon faults to watch for
Neutral expression, even lighting, plain background, head correctly sized and centred.
A side light or overhead lamp leaves one side of the face dark. Face a window instead.
A textured, coloured or shadowed wall. Turn on background replacement to fix this.
Reflections hide the eyes. Most countries want glasses removed entirely.
The head must be square to the camera. Use the straighten slider to correct small tilts.
The crown is cut off and the head exceeds the allowed millimetre range.
